Miller Lifts Whistlers to 8-4 Triumph
|
The Cork Whistlers defeated the Ayr Claymores, 8-4, at Bank of Ireland Stadium today. Leading the charge for Cork was second baseman Godfrey Miller. He went 3 for 4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 4. The win was credited to Bartlae Kelly in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Verdiano Savino took the loss. Despite the win, the Whistlers have a lousy 7-16 record.
Miller had a timely hit for Cork in the bottom of the eighth. With Ayr trailing 4-2, he turned a first pitch cutter into a bases-clearing double. It was his 9th double of the season, making it 5-4, Cork.
"It was a solid team effort," Miller said. "That's usually what it takes to win."
