The Utrecht Volts took The Hague pitcher Nico Machielse's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Stadion Utrecht. The final score had Utrecht getting past the Turtles, 5-2. Machielse went 6.2 innings and allowed 2 runs, striking out 8. Utrecht pitcher Abílio Bouchard got the win. He's now 1-0. Ano Skyttä was tagged with the loss. The Volts, now 5-2, have hit the ground running this season.
A decisive at-bat came in the bottom of the seventh inning. With runners on 2nd and 3rd, the batter, Dustin Ekkelenkamp, hit a 2-run single. It made the score 3-2, Utrecht, and helped them go on to win.
Ekkelenkamp told a Utrecht Today reporter he was "pleased as punch" with the win.
