Fire Rally to Eke Out Win
|
The Thessaloniki Fire outlasted Huub Spronk and the Dundee Mad Dogs, 9-8. Spronk was impressive in the loss. The Dundee center fielder was 3-6 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Konrad Schwappach, credited with the win, is now 1-1. He allowed 1 run on no hits. Now 4-6, the Mad Dogs have gotten off to a poor start.
When he came to bat in the bottom of the tenth, Conor Martin had a chance to be the hero. Dundee pitcher Uuno Riksman had other ideas. But with one out, Martin drew a walk, driving in 1 run. The Fire had themselves a dramatic win.
"Our team showed some spunk," said Martin.
