Dedicated fans weathered the storm to watch their beloved Fire beat the Mad Dogs.

The Thessaloniki Fire beat the Dundee Mad Dogs, 8-5, at Fire Park. The Fire got a fine performance from catcher Dietrich Newman, who was 2 for 4 with 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs. Piotr Ziegler came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. His record now stands at 1-0.

A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the eighth, with the game tied, Simone Lagututta was at the plate when Thessaloniki scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Fire to go in front, 6-5.

"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Lagututta.

Thessaloniki goes to 4-5.
